March 6: Glacier Kings, Panthers, Bucs Move On To Second Round

Oceanside 3 Comox Valley 7

Four unanswered second period goals and six straight overall, and a stunning 51 save effort from first star goalie Ander Reyes gave the Comox Valley Glacier Kings a 7-3 win over the Oceanside Generals and a 4-0 sweep of their first round North Division series in VIJHL action Friday night at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.

Second star Quinten Harvie had two goals, and singles came from third star Sheldon Alexander, who added three assists, Westin Churchill, Rolan Amin, Leon Mikhalchuk and Tegan Clayton, as Comox Valley broke the game open to lead 5-1 heading into the third after the first period ended in a 1-1 tie.

Scoring for Oceanside were Levi Green, Logan Duncan and Braeyen Newans, and netminders Ethan Suhr and Andreas Bylerius combined to make 27 saves.

Peninsula 5 Saanich 2

Four straight goals in the second and third periods enabled the Peninsula Panthers to down Saanich Predators 5-2 and take the South Division series 4-0 as 163 fans took in the game at George Pearkes Arena.

Peninsula was led by captain Ethan Lingard with a goal and two assists, with single markers coming from Kalan Dickie, Paco Hodson, Luke Christensen and Jacob Caron into an open net in the contest, which Saanich led 1-0 after 20 minutes with the Panthers leading 2-1 heading into the final frame. Third star Caden Lentz stopped 16 shots between the cats’ pipes.

Von Parsons and Konrad Lorincz scored for the Predators, with backstop George Jantz finishing with 43 stops to earn second star honours.

Victoria 6 Westshore 2

First star Ethan Davey and second star Kelton Shinde each scored twice to lead the Victoria Cougars to a 6-2 win over the Westshore Wolves to take a 3-1 lead in their South Division semi-final as 276 fans watched at The Q Centre.

Victoria never trailed, leading 3-0 and 4-1 by periods, and had their other goals from Jordan Ramsay and Caden Lave. Finn Wilson picked up the win in net with 28 stops.

Third star Parker Atkinson and Trace Anderson scored for Westshore, and Luca Vanzo and Owen Bonthuis combined to make 18 saves in the Wolves lair.

Game five in the series goes Sunday at Archie Browning Arena.

Nanaimo 7 Campbell River 0

First star Madden Cruickshank and third star Jack Barrett both fired two goals apiece while leading the Nanaimo Buccaneers to a 7-0 shutout – their third in the four-game series sweep – over the Campbell River Storm in front of 912 fans at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.

Tanner Ferrill earned the shutout with 38 saves as the Bucs led 2-0 and 5-0 by periods and now move on to the North Division final against Comox Valley. Nanaimo’s other goals came from Nate Barclay, Casey Rutland and Lukas Needham.

Luc Gravel finished with 34 stops in the Storm net.
