March 4: Panthers, Glacier Kings Take 3-0 Series Leads

Comox Valley 5 Oceanside 4

Hayden Parker’s wrist shot two minutes into sudden death overtime gave the Comox Valley Glacier Kings a 5-4 win and 3-0 North Division series lead over the Oceanside Generals in Wednesday night VIJHL playoff action in front of 467 fans at Oceanside Place.

Oceanside led 3-1 after the first period and 3-2 after two, but Comox Valley scored twice in the third to tie the contest. Third star Suhaan Nagra, Sheldon Alexander, Maxim Lefebvre and Gavin Munro, after taking an 80-foot pass off the chest then ripping a wrist shot past Oceanside goaltender Levi Hollatz to the game had the other tallies for the Yetis. Nick Kotai blocked 27 pucks for the win.

First star Ryder Bradford, Braeyen Newans, Max Boyle and Jacob Leamy had the Generals goals, and second star Logan Duncan added three assists. Hollatz turned aside 45 shots in the Oceanside net.

Peninsula 7 Saanich 4

Four third period goals powered the Peninsula Panthers to a 7-4 comeback win over the host Saanich Predators that gives the Panthers a 3-0 stranglehold in their South Division match-up.

Oskar Aitken-Salmons had his second straight hat trick, first star Ethan Lingard had two goals and an assist, Lucas Ananias and Jacob Caron scored one apiece and third star Alex Sajan chipped in three assists for Peninsula, which after a 2-2 first period tie trailed 4-3 heading into the third frame. Matus Volovar and Caden Lentz combined to make 17 stops in the Panthers net.

Second star Travis Swanson with two goals, and one each from Koen Gauthier and Von Parsons were the Saanich marksmen, and George Jantz finished with 35 saves between the Predators pipes.
