Nanaimo 1 Victoria 5
A pair of goals in each of the first two periods enabled the Victoria Cougars to triumph over the Nanaimo Buccaneers 5-1 Sunday at Archie Browning Arena to even their best-of-seven VIJHL Playoff Championship Series at a game apiece.
First star Haydyn Brooks, second star Simon Semancik, third star Ethan Davey, Jordan Ramsay and Carter Crabb scored for Victoria, which led 5-0 before Dylan Lazaroff scored Nanaimo’s lone goal on a powerplay to break Finn Wilson’s shutout in the third period. He finished with 28 stops.
Aaron Pichette and Tanner Ferrill combined for 28 saves in the Bucs net.
The third game of the series goes Monday night at Frank Crane Arena in Nanaimo.
