Nanaimo 2 Victoria 1
Kane Law scored the winning goal at 7:02 of the third period to give the Nanaimo Buccaneers a 2-1 win over the Victoria Cougars in the opening game of the VIJHL Championship Final series Thursday night at Archie Browning Arena.
First star Nate Barclay had Nanaimo’s first goal and assisted on Law’s tally and Simon Semancik had Victoria’s goal as the game was tied 1-1 after the first and second periods. The goaltending duel saw Aaron Pichette of the Buccaneers earn second star honours with 30 saves, and Finn Wilson of the Cougars was third star with 29 saves.
The second game of the series goes Sunday in Victoria.
