March 17: Glacier Kings Win In OT, Cougars Nip Panthers; Both Series 2-1

Comox Valley 1 Nanaimo 2 (OT)

Third star Tee Hagel scored at 12:59 of overtime to give the Comox Valley Glacier Kings a 2-1 win over the host Nanaimo Buccaneers and a 2-1 lead in their North Island final series in Tuesday night VIJHL playoff action in front of 445 fans at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Rolan Amin gave the Glacier Kings a first period lead that held up until Dreyton Hayward tied it late in the third frame, sending it to overtime. First star Tanner Ferrill stopped 43 shots in the Bucs net and second star Ander Reyes made 33 saves for the Glacier Kings.

Game four of the series is Wednesday night at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.

Peninsula 2 Victoria 4

A three goal second period and 35 save performance by first star Finn Wilson helped the Victoria Cougars hang on to a take a 4-2 decision over Peninsula at Archie Browning Arena and cut the Panthers series lead to 2-1.

Second star Simon Semancik opened the scoring for Victoria in the second stanza, and Caden Lave and Jordan Ramsay with the eventual game winner tallied in the last minute of the period, giving the Cougars a comfortable lead heading into the final frame.

Panther goals a minute and a half apart late in the third from Dome Szongoth, and captain Ethan Lingard on a power play with third star Caden Lentz, who finished with 34 stops, pulled in favor of an extra skater made the game tense.

Aiden Beavan’s empty net goal with six seconds remaining iced the victory for the Cougars.

Game four is Thursday in Victoria.
