Lake Cowichan 7 Saanich 2
First star Andrew Warne scored twice and added an assist to lead the Lake Cowichan Kraken to a 7-2 decision over the host Saanich Predators in Friday night VIJHL play at George Pearkes Arena.
Lake Cowichan (11-20-1-1 for 24 points, sixth in North Division) never trailed, leading 3-1 and 5-2 by periods, and also had goals from second star Iaroslav Morozov, Hunter McLean, Kieran Prichett, Diezel Wyton and Wyatt Hale, and 30 saves from netminder Evgeni Tkachenko.
Saanich (7-27-1 for 15 points, fourth in South Division) had their goals from third star Keon Gauthier and Linden Hoskins, and goalie Matthew Macfie stopped 25 shots during the contest.
Nanaimo 5 Comox Valley 1
Tristan Bailey scored twice and added an assist while being named first star as the Nanaimo Buccaneers cooled the Comox Valley Glacier Kings 5-1 at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
Nanaimo (22-10-1 for 45 points, second in North) held 1-0 and 3-1 leads by period, and had their other markers from second star Nate Barclay, Ethan Nordli and Lukas Needham into an empty net. Aaron Pichette picked up the win by stopping 33 of 34 shots in the Bucs goal.
Comox Valley (17-14-4-1 for 39 points, third in North) received 49 saves in a third star performance by goalie Anthony Ganoung, and had their lone goal off the stick of Leon Mikhalchuk.
Westshore 2 Port Alberni 3
Port Alberni Bombers led from start to finish in a 3-2 win over the Westshore Wolves as 330 watched at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Second star Joel Dorn with the winner in the third period, Rylan Clark and Quinn Bouchard had the goals for Port Alberni (13-20-2 for 28 points, fifth in North), which held 1-0 and 2-1 period leads. Goaltender joseph Naccarato earned first star accolades with a standout 50 save effort.
Westshore (24-7-4 for 52 points, second in South) had their tallies from third star Tyson Schamehorn and Sam Spring, and James Hall blocked 27 shots in the Wolves lair.
Campbell River 3 Peninsula 7
A hat trick from first star Brendan William propelled the Peninsula Panthers to a 7-3 win over the Campbell River Storm in front of 202 spectators at the Panorama Recreation Centre.
Peninsula (29-3-1 for 59 points, first in South) also had goals from third star Oskar Aitken-Salmons, Markus Nichols, Liam Byrne and Carson Harris as they marched to victory with 2-1 and 4-2 period leads. Jacob Eddy was third star with his three assist effort, and Matus Volovar stopped 26 shots between the Panthers pipes.
Campbell River (17-17-1 for 35 points, fourth in North) had their scores come from Maxime Simard, Colby Driebergen and Ryder Tanner, with Luc Gravel finishing with 45 saves in the Storm net.
