Oceanside 3 Westshore 4
First star Parker Atkinson fired a natural hat trick, including two power play markers, to propel the Westshore Wolves to a 4-3 victory over the Oceanside Generals in Wednesday night VIJHL action in front of 128 fans at The Q Centre.
Newcomer Elijah Kim, recently acquired in a trade with the Saanich Predators, was named second star with a goal and an assists for Westshore (24-6-4 for 52 points, second in the South Division), which scored four straight goals to take off from a 1-1 first period tie to lead 4-1 heading into the final frame. James Hall made 31 saves to earn the win in the Wolves lair.
Third star Ryder Bradford, Lincoln Bueckert and Min Jae Kim had the goals for Oceanside (24-10-1 for 49 points, first in the North). Ethan Suhr stopped 29 shots for the Generals.
Campbell River 5 Saanich 4 (OT)
Campbell River Storm jumped out to a 4-0 lead but the Saanich Predators scored the next four to tie the contest and send the game into overtime, when second star Ryder Tanner’s goal at 35 seconds of the extra stanza gave the Storm a 5-4 win at George Pearkes Arena.
Campbell River (17-16-1 for 35 points, fourth in North) had their other goals from Noah Spencer, Ethan Hill, Elliott Turgeon and Lucas Beaudoin as well as 30 saves from netminder Luc Gravel. The Storm led 2-0 and 4-1 by periods, before the three-goal barrage in the third by the Predators knotted the count.
Saanich (7-27-1 for 15 points, fourth in South) had two goals from first star Quinn McKenzie and singles from Deegan Panas and Dylan Hoskins, while third star Shandon Riopel chipped in with two assists. George Jantz blocked 40 between the Predators pipes.
