Jan. 4: Generals, Bombers Emerge Victorious In 4-3 Games

Oceanside 4 Comox Valley 3 (OT)

Second star Jacob Leamy’s second goal of the game just 29 seconds into overtime gave the Oceanside Generals a 4-3 victory over the Comox Valley Glacier Kings in Sunday night VIJHL play in front of 320 fans at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.

Oceanside (24-9-1, 49 points, first in North Division), led 2-1 and 3-2 by periods and had their other goals from Ryder Bradford and Max Boyle. Levi Hollatz stopped 33 shots to pick up the win between the Generals’ pipes.

For Comox Valley (17-3-4-1, 39 points, third in North), newcomer Easton Sangris had two goals and was named first star and Landen May added one for the hosts, who clawed back from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime, and nearly won it in the third when Leon Mikhalchuk fired shots off the crossbar and post. Kyle Mayenburg had two assists and was named third star, and netminder Silas Dromarsky finished with 28 saves.

Saanich 3 Port Alberni 4

Chase Pouchnik’s third period goal proved to be the difference at the Port Alberni Bombers held on for a 4-3 win over the Saanich Predators as 321 spectators took in the game at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

Port Alberni (12-20-2, 26 points, fifth in North) had their other goals from first star Malik Oliva, Ethan Unger and Mason Smith, with Jeremy Gould chipping in two assists to earn second star honours. Ryan Burroughs took the victory with 27 saves.

Saanich (7-26, 14 points, fourth in South) had two goals from Von Parsons and one from newcomer Linden Hoskins, who was traded from the Westshore Wolves earlier in the day. Former Bomber Kaydin Halladay assisted on all three goals and goalie George Jantz blocked 35 pucks during the contest.
