Port Alberni 1 Comox Valley 2
A pair of third period goals, including the winner by first star Kyle Mayenburg, helped the Comox Valley Glacier Kings overcome the Port Alberni Bombers 2-1 in Friday night VIJHL action at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
Sheldon Alexander tied the game for Comox Valley (17-13-3-1, 38 points, third in North Division), after Ethan Unger opened the scoring for Port Alberni (11-20-2, 24 points, fifth in North) in the first frame. Glacier Kings netminder Anthony Ganoung stopped 32 shots and was named second star, while Bombers goalie Joseph Naccarato blocked 38 to earn third star honours.
Nanaimo 1 Oceanside 3
A brilliant 34 save performance by first star Ethan Suhr backstopped the Oceanside Generals to a 3-1 win over the visiting Nanaimo Buccaneers in front of 525 fans at Oceanside Place.
Second star Braylon Becker, third star Braeyen Newans and Sloan Kroeker scored for the winners, who led 1-0 and 3-0 by periods as Oceanside (23-9-1, 47 points) solidified its grip on top spot in the North over Nanaimo (20-10-1, 41 points).
Nate Hughes dented the twine in the third period for Nanaimo and Bucs goalie Aaron Pichette stopped 20 shots in the contest.
Victoria 4 Kerry Park 1
Victoria Cougars scored twice in each of the second and third periods to earn a 4-1 decision over the Kerry Park Islanders at Kerry Park Arena.
Joseph Melichar, Pierson Main, Ben Wetterberg and Jordan Ramsay were the marksmen for Victoria (22-8-3, 47 points, third in South Division), which after a scoreless first period, led 2-1 heading into the third. Jacob Bernardo had an assist and was named second star.
Adam Ranger, obtained in a trade from the Nanaimo Buccaneers, accosted himself well with a first star, 31 save effort, while Kieran McMillan had an assist to earn third star honours. Colby Robinson had the goal for Kerry Park (2-32, 4 points, fifth in South).
Saanich 1 Peninsula 11
A seven goal third period put the exclamation mark on an 11-1 Peninsula Panthers pounding of the Saanich Predators watched by 218 spectators at Panorama Recreation Centre in Sidney.
Second star Lukas Preweda and third star Carson Harris led the attack for Peninsula (28-2-1, 57 points, first in South) with two goals apiece, with singles coming from first star Leo Therien, Kaylan Dickie, Risto Ringma, Ben Swan, Logan Barnes, Oskar Aitken-Salmons and Ethan Lingard, as the Panthers led 2-1 and 4-1 by periods.
Von Parsons was the lone Predator to beat cats goalie Caden Lent, who finished with 15 saves, while Asher Uniat blocked 44 pucks in net for Saanich (7-25, 14 points, fourth in South).
