North Division Top Prospects 4 South Division Top Prospects 7
Trace Anderson of the Westshore Wolves pumped in five goals and was named Most Valuable Player of the game as the South Division defeated the North Division 7-4 in the VIJHL Top Prospects Game Friday night at the Thompson Family Arena in Spruce Grove, Alberta.
Anderson scored the first two goals of the game and all three goals for the South in the first period, which ended in a 3-3 tie, which was followed by a scoreless middle frame. Adding to Anderson’s pair in the third were Ben Wetterberg and Haydn Brooks of the Victoria Cougars, assisted by goaltender Matus Volovar, who tried valiantly to score on an empty net but ended up registering a point. Volovar and Caden Lentz, both of Peninsula, shared the Panthers net and made 27 saves.
Cameron Collins of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings, Ryder Bradford of the Oceanside Generals, Madden Cruickshank of the Nanaimo Buccaneers and Joel Dorn of the Port Alberni Bombers with a nifty roof-lifter had the North markers. Goalies Anthony Ganoung of Comox Valley and Ethan Suhr of Oceanside made 22 saves between them.
Saturday’s game featured the VIJHL North and South Division All-Stars squaring off in an afternoon contest.
This is the second year that the VIJHL has joined forces with the BCHL in their annual All-Star & Top Prospects event, designed to showcase the top players in both leagues for a host of scouts from across North America.
