Westshore 4 Nanaimo 3 (OT)
Trace Anderson’s goal at 3:38 of overtime lifted the Westshore Wolves to a 4-3 victory over the North Division leading Nanaimo Buccaneers in Thursday night VIJHL action watched by 265 fans at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
Westshore (30-8-4 for 64 points) now trails first place Peninsula by two points in the South Division, although the Panthers have three games in hand, while the third place Victoria Cougars are three points back having played two less games. Sam Spring, Nick Scott and Kansys Seney had the other goals for the Wolves, third star Kaden Ryan had two assists, and goalie Owen Bonthuis made 33 stops in the contest.
Nanaimo (28-10-2 for 58 points) busted out of the gate with goals by first star Nate Barclay, who had two goals, and Kane Law, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead just 1:42 into the contest. The Buccaneers led 2-1 and 3-2 by periods, and second star Dylan Konschuh added two assists, with goaltender Aaron Pichette finishing with 23 saves.
