Feb. 21: Glacier Kings, Bombers, Generals & Wolves Earn Victories

Saanich 0 Comox Valley 5

Two goals and an assist from first star Quinten Harvie and a 22 save shutout by second star Ander Reyes helped the Comox Valley Glacier Kings freeze the Saanich Predators 5-0 in Saturday night VIJHL action at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.

Comox Valley (24-16-5-1 for 64 points, third in the North Division) had a goal and two assists from third star Rolan Amin and its other goals from Leon Mikhalchuk and Suhaan Nagra in the contest they led 1-0 and 4-0 by periods.

Saanich (8-35-3 for 19 points, fourth in South) saw goalie Asher Uniat make 37 saves in the contest.

 

Peninsula 2 Port Alberni 5

A pair of goals from first star Kash Nicklin and 46 saves from Ryan Burroughs were the difference as the Port Alberni Bombers upset the VIJHL regular season champion Peninsula Panthers 5-2 as 382 watched at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

Port Alberni (17-27-3 for 37 points, fifth in North) had its other goals from third star Joel Dorn, Carter Davidson and Ryan Christenson as following a 1-1 first period tie, the hosts led 3-2 heading into the final frame.

Peninsula (37-6-3 for 77 points, first in South) had both of its goals come from Koehn Obuck and Caden Lentz made 21 stops between the Panthers pipes.

 

Lake Cowichan 3 Oceanside 4 (SO)

Second star Sloan Kroeker was the only one of 14 shooters to score in the shootout, giving the Oceanside Generals a 4-3 decision over the Lake Cowichan Kraken in front of 379 spectators at Oceanside Place.

Lake Cowichan (14-29-1-2 for 31 points, sixth in North) scored the first three goals of the game and led 1-0 and 3-1 by periods, but Oceanside (27-18-1 for 55 points, second in North) came back with the last three regulation tallies to send the game to extra time, with neither team able to score in the 10 minute 3-on-3 overtime.

First star Logan Duncan, Max Boyle and Braeyen Newans had the goals for the Generals, with Ethan Suhr making 23 saves in net. Third star Colten Palmer, Ethan Nagy and Landon Morris scored for Lake Cowichan, and Alfie Blakeley made 51 saves in the Kraken cage.

 

Westshore 8 Kerry Park 3

Sam Spring fired a hat trick and Alejandro Snead added a pair to spark the Westshore Wolves to an 8-3 victory over the Kerry Park Islanders at Kerry Park Arena.

Following a 1-1 first period tie, Westshore (33-9-4 for 70 points, third in South) led 5-1 heading into the third and had single markers from Tyson Schamehorn, Linkin Niedoba and Xavier Barthe. Luca Vanzo had 21 stops in the Wolves lair and Noah Gebicki had two assists and was named second star.

Kerry Park (2-45 for 4 points) scores came from third star Lucas Pallen, Kyle Spruston and Parker Lawrence, and William Kozoriz had 29 saves on the night. Liam Downie was named first star.
