First star Aaron Pichette stopped all 40 shots he faced and second star Jack Barrett fired two goals, including the opening goal, to lead the Nanaimo Buccaneers to a 4-0 shutout of the Oceanside Generals in a battle of the two top teams in the North Division in Thursday night VIJHL play in front of 280 fans at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
After a scoreless opening frame, Nanaimo scored twice in the second and third stanzas and also had goals from Madden Cruickshank and Dreyton Hayward. Ethan Nordli had an assist and was named third star. The win pulled Nanaimo (15-9-1 for 31 points) to within two points of division leading Oceanside (16-9-1 for 33 points).
Ethan Suhr finished with 30 saves in the Generals cage.
