Lake Cowichan 4 Comox Valley 3 (OT)
First star Viktor Dudenkov’s unassisted marker at 6:10 of overtime gave the Lake Cowichan Kraken a 4-3 victory over the Comox Valley Glacier Kings in Saturday night VIJHL play at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
Kieran Prichett, Artem Zubatykin and Iaroslav Morozov had the other goals for Lake Cowichan (8-18-1-1 for 18 points).
Following a 1-1 first period tie, Comox Valley (15-13-2-1 for 33 points, third in the North Division) led 2-1 heading into the third. Second star Quinten Harvie, third star Leon Mikhalchuk andLandon Morris scored the Glacier Kings goals.
Both goalies were outstanding, with Alfie Blakeley stopping 46 shots in the Kraken cage, and Anthony Ganoung finishing with 43 for the Yetis.
Saanich 3 Oceanside 5
Levi Green’s second goal of the game, a power play with 7:31 remaining in the third, and an empty net goal by Billy Snyder gave the Oceanside Generals the winning margin in a 5-3 decision over the Saanich Predators at Oceanside Place in Parksville.
Oceanside (22-9-1 for 45 points, first in the North) scored three times in the second period, including tallies from Grady Dragani and Brody Park as the Generals went into the third period up 3-1 after trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes. Andreas Bylerius took the win with 16 saves.
Deegan Panas, Kaydin Halladay and Koen Gauthier had the goals for the Predators (7-24 for 14 points) and netminder George Jantz finished with 34 stops.
Victoria 0 Campbell River 1
First star goalie Mathias Hasselmann stopped all 30 shots he faced to lead the Campbell River Storm a 1-0 shutout win over the Victoria Cougars as 417 watched at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.
Lane Maarhuis was also brilliant in net for Victoria (21-8-3 for 45 points) and earned second star honours in the contest, with third star Ryder Tanner’s second period goal proving to be the winner for Campbell River (14-16-1 for 29 points).
Westshore 6 Kerry Park 3
Parker Atkinson scored at 4 seconds and 1:23 of the opening period to start the Westshore Wolves off towards a 6-3 doubling of the Kerry Park Islanders at Kerry Park Arena in Mill Bay.
Westhore (23-6-3 for 49 points) led 5-0 after the first period and Atkinson added an assist in a first star effort. Also finding the twine were Shane Fillinger, Kansys Seney, Rown Brodie-Rafuseand Kaden Ryan, with James Hall tidying up with a neat 28 save effort in net for the Wolves, who led 5-1 heading into the third.
Second star Benjamin Stocks, Hagan Purinton and Lucas Pallen had the goals for Kerry Park (2-29), with third star Wade Enger adding an assist. Joshua Dubreuil and Carter Puska put together 45 saves between the Islanders pipes.
