Dec. 14: Overtime! Gens, Preds & Bucs All Win 4-3 In Extra Time

Victoria 3 Oceanside 4 (OT)

Levi Green’s goal 42 seconds into overtime gave the Oceanside Generals a 4-3 victory over the Victoria Cougars in Sunday VIJHL play in front of 389 spectators at Oceanside Place in Parksville.

First star Braeyen Newans assisted on the winning goal and added two of his own as Oceanside (20-9-1 for 41 points) led 3-2 heading into the final frame following a scoreless first. Second star Braylon Becker had a goal and assist for the North Division leading Generals, with Ethan Suhr taking the decision in goal with 31 saves.

League leading scorer Joseph Melichar (26G, 35A, 61 PTS) was in on all of the Cougars goals with a goal and an assist on goals by Jacob Bernardo and Grady Slugget in the second period. Jesse Pye compiled 31 saves in net for Victoria (20-7-3).

Saanich 4 Lake Cowichan 3 (OT)

Koen Gauthier’s goal at 7:12 of overtime and a stellar 53 save goaltending performance by second star Asher Uniat enabled the Saanich Predators to earn a 4-3 decision over the Lake Cowichan Kraken at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.

First star Kaydin Halladay with two and Konrad Lorincz with one also scored for Saanich (7-22), which after a 1-1 first period tie led 2-1 heading into the third.

Third star Viktor Dudenkov, who tied the game with 1:08 left in the third period, Addison Bradley and Colten Palmer had the goals for Lake Cowichan (8-18-1-1).

Alfie Blakeley finished with 19 saves in the Kraken cage.

Nanaimo 4 Port Alberni 3 (OT)

Kai Verbrugge’s goal 3:16 into the extra frame lifted the Nanaimo Buccaneers to a 4-3 overtime win over the Port Alberni Bombers in front of 366 onlookers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

Nanaimo (18-9-1) led 1-0 and 2-1 by periods and had their other tallies come from Madden Cruickshank, Casey Rutland and Dreyton Hayward. Nate Barclay had two assists and was named second star, and Aaron Pichette had 22 stops between the Bucs pipes.

Chase Pouchnik’s late third period power play goal tied the game for the Bombers (11-16-2), which also had single tallies from McCall Nault and third star Ethan Unger. Ryan Burroughswas outstanding in the Port Alberni net, making 66 saves, and earned first star accolades.
