Dallas Stars Captain Jamie Benn, an Islander – through the eyes of the Dallas Morning News

The Dallas Morning News reporter Matthew DeFranks travelled with the Dallas Stars on a recent swing out West and took the opportunity to come to Vancouver Island to explore the roots of Stars Captain and NHL’s Art Ross winner, Jamie Benn.

Jamie Benn has been a superstar in the NHL for a number of years as the Captain of the Dallas Stars. The former sniper for the Peninsula Panthers has deep hockey roots on the Peninsula and when the Dallas Stars took an extended trip out West to visit the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks, the Dallas Morning News reporter Matthew DeFranks took the opportunity to visit North Saanich. DeFranks had a lengthy interview with Panthers owner, Pete Zubersky at the Panorama Recreation Centre to see up close Benn’s formative years in Junior Hockey.

The article contains some details, photos and NHL clips of Benn as he navigated his time with the Panthers to being an NHL Art Ross winner as the NHL’s top scorer. It also shows the legendary scrap the Saanich Peninsula product had with Calgary Flames Jerome Iginla and his interview after being knocked out of the Stanley Cup Finals by Tampa Bay Lightning.
