Sept. 6 – Bombers, Bucs & Cougars Earn Saturday Wins

Oceanside 2 Port Alberni 4

Kaydin Halladay scored twice and added an assist to earn third star honours while leading the Port Alberni Bombers to a 4-2 doubling of the Oceanside Generals in Saturday night VIJHL action in front of 427 spectators at Oceanside Place in Parksville.

Kash Nicklin and Joel Dorn also scored for the Bombers, who trailed 1-0 after the first period but led 3-2 heading into the third while receiving 43 saves from goalie Joseph Naccarato.

First star Max Boyle and second star Brody Park had the Oceanside goals, with Ethan Suhr stopping 20 shots in the game.

Nanaimo 4 Comox Valley 2

A three goal second period explosion enabled the Nanaimo Buccaneers to cool the Comox Valley Glacier Kings 4-2 before 355 fans at Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Madden Cruikshank, Dreyton Hayward, Lukas Needham and second star Nolan Gantner scored for Nanaimo, with first star Ethan Nordli adding two assists. Following a scoreless first period, Nanaimo led 3-1 after two and received 21 stops from netminder Aaron Pichette.

Third Star Cohen Kallin and Zaya Morro had the goals for the Glacier Kings, as goalie Timothee Fengos had a busy night with 30 saves.

Kerry Park 1 Victoria 7

A pair of shorthanded first period goals helped the Victoria Cougars start towards a 7-1 defeat of the Kerry Park Islanders in Saturday night VIJHL action at the Kerry Park Arena as 174 spectators watched

First star Grady Slugget had three goals to lead Victoria, who also got markers from Carter Zeeben, Tyler Delli-Carri, Haydyn Brooks and 16-year old rookie defenseman Quintin Bortolotto on a power play, as the Cougars led 3-0 and 5-1 by periods. Lane Maarhuis was almost perfect in net, stopping 30 of 31 shots on the night.

Benjamin Stocks scored the only Islanders goal, shorthanded, with goalie Carter Puska stopping 30 shots in relief of Joshua Dubreuil to be named second star. Third star of the contest was Kerry Park’s Colten Roberts.
