Nanaimo 2 Oceanside 3 (OT)
First star Josh Nuttall was sensational, blocking 60 shots and second star Jackson Bostock scored his second goal at 8:26 of overtime to give the Oceanside Generals a 3-2 victory over the Nanaimo Buccaneers in front of 402 spectators at Oceanside Place in Sunday VIJHL action.
Alexandre Alhaj scored late in the third period to tie the contest, and Mathias Alhaj had an assist and was named the third star for Oceanside, now 9-28-4 on the season.
Jaxin Karst had a goal and an assist and Conall Hill scored the other goal for Nanaimo (15-22-2-2), which led 2-1 heading into the third after a scoreless first frame. Parker Ambury stopped 24 shots in the Bucs net.
Saanich 5 Lake Cowichan 6
Second star Gellert Kiss-Molnar and third star Laroslav Morozov each scored twice as the Lake Cowichan Kraken stormed back to take a 6-5 victory over the Saanich Predators at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.
Saanich led 1-0 after the first period and 4-2 after the second, before Lake Cowichan scored four times in the third period to take the lead and hang on for the win. The decision boosted the Kraken to 18-21-3-1 and 40 points, three points up in the race for third spot in the North Division on Comox Valley, which has two games in hand and five points ahead of Nanaimo, which has played one less game than Lake Cowichan.
Carter Anderson and Cooper Barclay also scored for the winners, who received 30 saves from netminder Tanner Ferrill.
First star Tarik Borhot had a goal and two assists for Saanich, with the Predators other goals coming from Travis Swanson with two and Elijah Kim and Maxime Simard with one apiece. Goalie Asher Uniat finished with 35 saves. Saanich is now 10-9-3 and is officially eliminated from the playoffs.
