Zack Evans is the only 20-year-old to open the season with the Panthers and the Coaching staff is looking at him to fill a leadership role on the Club. The big defenceman played all his younger years in the Peninsula Minor Hockey Association. Zack affiliated with the Panthers for a season before signing and playing a season two years ago. He then ventured down to Salt Lake City last season where he had an adventure playing Junior A with the Utah Outliers. The youngster is looking at a career in Law Enforcement and chose to play his final year in Junior right back at home with the Panthers and the Staff could not be any happier about his decision. He lists the person who had the biggest influence on him as Grandad Tom Evans.

RYAN STRANGE
Saanich Braves

The Week 5 VIJHL Player of the Week is Ryan Strange of the Saanich Braves. This young man has proven, year in and year out, to be as solid a two-way forward as they come. On the weekend, the third year VIJHL vet picked up 6 points in two games. Braves’ Head Coach, Brent Polischuk describes the 19 year old, “Ryan is the quintessential quiet leader on and off the ice leading by example all the time.” He leads Saanich in scoring averaging 1.2 points per game.
