Cougars Share Great News on their Alumni Game
- Submitted by

On December 19, the Victoria Cougars hosted their 2nd annual Alumni game in support of alumnus Josh Wyatt. The best news wasn’t that $5,372 was raised to offset some of Josh’s medical costs which have been startling, it was that he heard from his Doctor earlier in the day that a recent PET Scan revealed that his Cancer was in remission.

Josh Wyatt played 3 strong seasons with the Cougars (2009-2012) averaging over a point per game and helping the Victoria crew to a VI Championship. From Junior, he moved onto a successful University career with the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos. While in Edmond Oklahoma, since 2014, he amassed 120 points (a point per game) in 4 seasons, won 2 ACHA National Championships, fell in love and married the woman of his dreams, Kurstyn.

The couple purchased a home in Oklahoma, then learned shortly afterwards that Josh had Cancer. The medical bills, needless to say, have mounted and the Cougars felt the need to act.

The Alumni game at the Archie Browning Arena last Thursday (December 19) was a hoot, a real goaltenders battle with Team Fisher beating Team Linger 17-15. After the game, the Cougars family got together and there was a lot of catching up for old friends and teammates.

The Cougars would like to thank the fans and alumni who supported their brother by making a donation, coming out to the game and bidding on the silent auction items, helping to raise over $5k.

You can help Josh by donating to the GoFundMe page set up HERE.

Above is an interview last week on the VIJHL Breakout podcast with Cougars’ Director Tom Arlidge talking about Josh Wyatt and the Alumni game.

JORDAN NEUFELD
Comox Valley Glacier Kings

“Jordan (Neufeld) played his best hockey of the season over the past six weeks,” says Comox Valley Glacier Kings’ Head Coach, Jeff Dubois of the VIJHL Player of the Week (February 17-22). “On top of being our top offensive player, he brings a physical presence and puts in a lot of work on special teams. He was the driving force in our win on Monday over Campbell River and has scored a number of big goals this month.”
